Al Ahly’s football first team achieved a staggering victory 1-0 against C.F. Monterrey of Mexico on Thursday in the preliminary round of the FIFA Club World Cup.
Mohamed Hany was on a great run of form tonight and helped us reach the FIFA Club World Cup semi-finals with a marvelous screamer.
First Half
The game started with our players controlling the game’s tempo by exchanging the ball in the midfield.
With only 4 minutes on the clock, we were about to score the opener. Ali Maaloul sent a brilliant pass to Hussien El Shahat, who dribbled past the defender and passed the ball to Ahmed Abdelkader.
Abdelkader then shot the ball, but his efforts were blocked by the keeper.
Monterrey’s players then pushed forward as they were keen to score the opener, but our defenders stood their ground and managed to block all the Mexican team’s attempts.
In the 38th minute, we were close to scoring the first goal of the game.
Maaloul sent a sensational cross inside Monterrey’s box, and Taher Mohamed Taher hit the ball with a first-time shot. However, his efforts were blocked as the ball went directly into the keeper’s hands.
The minutes then went on and both teams tried to score the opener, but the referee blew his half-time whistle to declare a goalless draw at the break.
Second Half
The Red Eagles upped their pressure by the start of the second half to score the opener, and in the 53rd minute, our moment finally came.
Maaloul sent a cross from the left flank, which the keeper deflected away. A poor clearance from the keeper found Hany, and with a first-time shot, he fired a screamer that hit the back of the net to make it 1-0 for the African Club of the Century.
Three minutes later, Aly Lotfy saved the day with a heroic save to keep the result 1-0 for us. The ball reached Monterrey’s forward, inside our box and, who then tried to convert it into the back of our net, but with a marvelous save, Lotfy deflected the ball into a corner kick.
In the 63rd minute, Mosimane made his first substitution as Karim Fouad joined the game instead of Mohamed El Maghrabi.
Three minutes later, Mohamed Magdy Afsha was close to adding the second goal. Our midfielder fired a strong shot, but the keeper managed to block it.
Mosimane made another two substitutions, as Luis Miquissone and Walid Soliman joined the match instead of Ahmed Abdelkader and Hussien El Shahat.
In the dying minutes of the game, Soliman was close to double the score. He received a long pass and blasted a strong header, but it went to a goal kick.
The final minutes went on and we managed to block all Monterrey’s attempts to secure a precious victory and advance to the FIFA Club World Cup semi-finals.
